Council extends trial on Capel St and Parliament St.

Dublin City Council has announced plans to extend the traffic-free trail on Capel St and Parliament St for a further 6 weeks, writes Amy Rohu.

The trial, which was originally scheduled to run until June 18, has now been extended until August 29 and sees Capel St. and Parliament St. made traffic-free on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening from 6.30pm to 11.30pm

Speaking about the announcement, Lord Mayor of Dublin Alison Gilliland said: “There has been overwhelmingly positive feedback from the public since the trial first began. Businesses and their customers alike have enjoyed the space to dine out and pedestrians have enjoyed the extra space to walk around at their ease. It therefore makes perfect sense that it should continue, particularly given the uncertainty around indoor dining. I would encourage people to pop in and check it out if you haven’t done so already. There’s a great atmosphere in our City.”

One the trial is complete, Dublin City Council plan to assess the outcome.
