Acclaimed Dublin poet and playwright Paula Meehan has been chosen as the Book Club Author for the 2021 Bealtaine Festival as she discusses her new book.
Paula has published seven collections and received multiple awards throughout her career.
She will be discussing her latest book ‘As If By Magic: Selected Poems’ and her career to date with author Mia Gallagher.
The collection gathers together Meehan’s work published between 1991 and 2016. Her devotion to, and mastery of, her craft, has always been one of the key signatures of her work, as has been her immersion in her beloved native Dublin.
Paula said: “As an artist, some of the greatest work gets made as you get older, especially as you’re learning a complex and ancient craft. I’m now able to embrace some of the freedoms that come with age, like the freedom to say what you want to say.
“My generation has also seen huge changes in civil liberties and I’m proud of the part we’ve played in that.”
