THURSDAY FEB 27th
7.30pm – 9pm
During this workshop Gráinne will give you the low down on Pilates, explaining the background, principles and many benefits. Also on the agenda will be the concept of good posture and balance in our body, what is the core or ‘powerhouse’ and how to engage it, the position of the neutral spine and pelvis, and the use and importance of the breath with the exercises.
Most importantly though there will be movement! She will take you through exercises from the Pilates repertoire with the goal of safely moving the body in every direction; through forward flexion, extension, rotation and lateral flexion. The focus will be on mindful movement as we ‘stabilise before we mobilise’. Modifications to each exercise will be integrated throughout the class and you will find that even the simplest Pilates exercise executed correctly and with precision is a challenge.
Having first qualified as a personal trainer and fitness instructor twenty five years ago, Gráinne O’Driscoll’s passion for health and fitness eventually lead her to train as a Pilates teacher – first with the National Training College in Dublin and latterly gaining a qualification with the globally recognised BASI Pilates system. She is also a qualified yoga teacher and loves to see and continuously learn how different movement methods can complement and inform each other. You can find out more at www.graforfitness.ie
