An informal talk discussing art, history and place for the exhibitions Longest Way Home, Shortest Way Home at The Pumphouse. The talk will be blended with a tour of the exhibitions with further information about The Pumphouse site located on what was formally a graving docks. Considering the function of the graving docks-for the repair and maintenance of ships and as a site of assemblage – and, set against an impressive maritime landscape with the constant flow of movement between nature and the manmade, this talk will identify connections bridging Longest Way Round Shortest Way Home to the history of the location, dredging up subtle references to the surface for inspection and reflection.
