KinoD is back with another 10 day International Filmmaking Kabaret!

When and where?

SEDA College, 68-72 Capel street, Dublin, D01 AR29 (‘The Lab’)

August 11th – 20th

Who is KinoD for?

From absolute beginners to seasoned experts. This event is open to anyone willing to get involved in the filmmaking process. We will facilitate the completion of all movies but participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment: Cameras, lenses, sound recorders, microphones, lights, computers for editing, props, costumes, makeup etc.

The Schedule

Friday 11th – Session #1

Workshop #1: Shooting a scene – Intro to filmmaking with Andrew Holohan

4pm-5pm in SEDA College

If you are lacking experience or want to try your hand at directing during Kino, this workshop is for you. Andrew will lead you through filming a standard dialogue sequence for film. With plenty of tips and tricks offered throughout. A crash course primer from which you can then use the knowledge to attack your kino masterpieces!

Andrew is a director and editor based in Dublin and works full time in the commercial and corporate video sector. He also teaches film production at Trinity College Dublin on the IDM Masters course.

Pitching Session #1

Doors open 6.30pm – Intro & Pitching starts 7. 30 pm

Ideas for films are pitched to the whole group, followed by networking in the Lab. This is a perfect chance to meet other filmmakers, team up, brainstorm and attach yourself to interesting projects. Directors can start rehearsing with their talents, coordinating crews or just start shooting straight away.

Sunday 13th – Screening #1

Location: The Irish Film Institute, Temple Bar

The hard editing deadline for films is 6pm! Some warm snacks & popcorn will be served. BYOB.

Doors open 6:30pm – Screening starts 7. 30 pm

Monday 14th – Session #2

Doors open 10.30 am – Pitching starts at 12pm

The Silent Session is back! Only one rule with this one – all films must be silent. Any sound/music/dialogue must be created live on stage, rather than edited into your film. We’ll have a sound system and an extra day for you to prepare & rehearse.

Wednesday 16th – Screening #2 – The Silent Screening

Location: The Workman’s Club, Temple Bar

Doors open 6:30pm – Screening starts 7.30pm

For this screening to run smoothly, you must tell us what kind of audio/microphone set-up you need for your film, in good time. We will have to stop rehearsals at 5pm to prepare the space, and as ever, the hard editing and deadline is 6pm!Some warm snacks & popcorn will be served. BYOB.

Thursday 17th – Session #3

Doors open 6.30 pm – Intro & Pitching starts at 7.30 pm

The last session and no special rules with this one so go for it and make it count!

Sunday 20th – Screening #3 – The Irish Film Institute

The hard editing deadline for films is 6pm! Some warm snacks & popcorn will be served. BYOB.

  • Resources – We strongly advise screenwriters and directors to consider your resources and time constraints. Firstly, we have put a lot of effort into getting a Dublin City Centre Lab venue – use it! Explore the city and shoot Dublin in all her glory! Work fast, Kino is a non-competitive guerilla filmmaking challenge, so experiment, push yourself and make something great!
  • Quickies™ – Pitching a project is great, finishing a film project is a miracle – but if the neurons are still firing and you just can’t stop then go for it and make a quickie! Quickies are usually 30 seconds to 1 minute long (no more than a minute) and tend to be the most insane ideas ever put to screen. We like insane at KinoD and will screen all quickies. So show us what you got!
  • Editing Specifications – Go ahead and shoot 4k you absolute masochist, but all exports must be in no higher spec than H.264 20mbps FHD 1920x1080p or the HD equivalent of any aspect ratio (eg. 1:1 or square equates to 1080×1080). We can only screen mp4 files, no DCPs or 4K files.
  • Housekeeping – Please respect the spaces provided and clean up when finished shooting or after eating and drinking. KinoD is run by volunteers, there will always be a member on site so we will do our best to accommodate every query and help get your projects finished.
  • Media Consent – By purchasing tickets and attending this event, you agree to have your image/photo/audio/video recorded by KinoD for the purpose of marketing other KinoD events and event partners, as well as by other participants of this event for use in short films created during the event.

Tickets cost €35 euro per session or €90 for all 10 days

Tickets include:

  1. Access to the Kino Lab space 9am-11pm, August 11-20
  2. Access to the KinoD Whatsapp Group

  5. Bring your own Gear!

Live Streaming All Pitching Sessions, Workshops and Screenings will be streamed live on the KinoD youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@kinodkabaret/streams
