Do you want to get in to life modelling? This is the workshop for you.
Most tutors prefer that their models have some experience, which is why here at DUBLIN LIFE DRAWING we run model training workshops a couple of times a year. Learning from your peers and experienced models is a great way to find out about what modelling is and what it will mean to be a life model for artists. After the workshop you will have a clear idea of what is involved and you will know if you would like to start posing for artists.
Please note our initial sessions will be open to female models only. We will have a session for male models, hopefully next month. Send an email to DUBLINDRAWING@GMAIL.COM if you’re interested.
In this session, we will spend an afternoon going over the basics of posing – and of course answering all of your questions. There will be some artists there to show you what is needed of a model, and an experienced life model will lead the session.
The workshop involves some posing nude and some sketching. There will be a break for some complimentary refreshments and a question and answer session.
What you’ll have to do as a life model:
You can expect life modelling sessions to last around two to three hours, including breaks.
You don’t have to have a particular look or be in top shape – if anything, you’re likely to be in more demand if you have a unique look or an interesting body shape.
However, you need to be comfortable with both nudity and a certain amount of boredom. This is a very important thing to remember when considering life modelling.
You will often be asked to create your own poses, so you’ll need to practice and figure out comfortable ways to hold positions.
Option One- 1.30-4.15PM After a discussion of what being a model is, the workshop will split into two groups, and everyone will get some tips on posing and also an opportunity to do some sketching so you can see how it all comes together. You’ll get guidance from some artists and a professional art teacher with some tips on what makes a good model.
You’ll also get advice from a professional model on how to do the job, what to expect, and how to look after yourself in modelling.
Option Two- 1.30-7.00PM In the evening, the studio will be open for a life drawing class, and if you want to you can pose at this class so you can immediately start building up your portfolio.
This class will start at 4.45, so if you want you can leave early – there’s no pressure on anyone to pose for the evening class.
Both Options are €45 full price
Early booking is €39 (must be booked before January 14th)
Special price for two people €75
Places must be booked in advance and February 9th’s workshop is female only. There will be male artists present but no male models on this occasion.
Who We Are
Dublin Life Drawing has been organising drop-in life drawing classes at various venues for a few years. We hope to bring life drawing to everyone, not just artists.
