The mother of a six-year-old boy who was implanted with a non-medical grade spring during spinal surgery in Temple Street children’s hospital has been told the spring appears to be “disintegrating/unravelling” and needs to be removed.
The spring, which was not certified for use in surgery, was inserted in Luke Ryan, who suffers from type 1 spinal muscular atrophy, by the paediatric orthopaedic surgeon Connor Green, who is on leave from Temple Street since concerns were raised about his work.
