Sailing in Ireland is an outdoor activity governed and regulated by the Irish Sailing Association, at 3 Park Road, Dun Laoghaire and events are organized by the various clubs on the coasts and on the reservoirs and lakes.

The first sailing club was the Cork Water Club founded in 1720. Dublin Bay Cruises sail between Howth and Dun Laoghaire up to six times a day from March to October. The 90 min trip brings one not only around the beautiful vista of Dublin Bay, but it also helps one to travel through time and to understand how and why the modern city of Dublin developed to become the capital city of Ireland. Sailing in Dublin (SID) Club is a small friendly club based in Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin. They offer you the opportunity to sail regularly without having to buy a boat. The club provides a fleet of dinghies (1 and 2 person boats) and three yachts (max 7 persons) for sailing activities and competitions at a very low membership fee. They welcome all adults who wish to enjoy sailing in Dublin Bay and beyond. If you are a beginner, you can sail on our Sigma and Ruffian keelboats with experienced crew to build up your sailing skills and knowledge. If you have some sailing experience, you can spend more time on the water dinghy sailing, on their cruising boat Silver Wind, or on their keelboats where you can take part in all aspects of sailing, from crewing to helming to navigation. SID gives you the opportunity to sail with more experienced sailors before attending further training courses, or perhaps committing yourself to buying a boat.
